Back to Reality

Wow I haven't blogged in so long I actually forgot my password!

Anyway I am back from New York and recovering from post-holiday blues. I was pretty bad with photos but have uploaded a few of NYC and San Fran.

Had such an incredible time in NY and I think I donated pretty heavily to Bergdorf Goodman's bottom line. The McQueen exhibition at the MET was incredible, but unfortunately photos weren't allowed so you will just have to take my word for it.

...Now to catch up on everyone's blogs!

Whoops

I faltered. I fell. But in my defense saving money is REALLY boring. I'm usually not a big fan of diffusion lines but I bit the bullet and bought this Dion Lee for Cue shirt dress yesterday. I tried to wear it with tights and a jacket to work today but I think I am still looking pretty inappropriate. Oh well I think it's cute anyway.

Hello My Name's Shannon and I am a Blackoholic

I finished my MBA! Ok thats a filthy lie I finished this trimester but good news is I dont have to spend every day ploughing through 10 hours at work then another 3 with my head in a book for a few weeks. Huzzah! So back to the blog I run.

My wardrobe seems very scarce at the moment but I am trying not to spend any money until I reach New York (so outfit posts will probably be mediocre at best). I am however, trying to wear more colour as my wardrobe pretty much consists of black and grey. This is my attempt for my work get-up today , I must have underestimated just how much black I wear because I have got 6 comments (its 9.45am) that its wierd to see me in colour.

Could I be an unintentional goth?! I'm not a cure fan so I think I'm in the clear.

By the way I wanted to take these pics in little pavillion we have in our backyard but there are workers next door who could see so I had to resort to the dingy garden.

R & R

I actually had a day off yesterday (!!) so we went out for breakfast in the Italian Forum and wondered around the city enjoying the sun. It was a lovely relaxing day, it turned out to be a great way to recharge the batteries.

Me looking like a total tourist

They had an egg white omelette on the menu, so we both ordered it to be healthy but it turned out to be ridiculously bland....find the basil people!
Showing off his stamp from the previous night (classy).

To brighten up the place where I do all my work we bought some lilies and a wild lime candle, the candle smells delish!
Wearing Forecast dress, Gucci sunnies, Colette clutch, Avon necklace and Ysl Arty ring.

Fool's Paradise

Things have been mind numbingly boring for me at the moment, working long hours and studying at night. Usually my remedy would be some retail therapy but given that I am supposed to be saving for NYC and San Fran (8 weeks to go!) that is not an option.

So I did the next best thing....posted the things I want on here!

Must.......be........strong.

Weekend of Reprieve

I accidentally left my uni work locked inside my office this weekend and even though I have a paper due today I got some much needed R & R. The outfit isn't terribly exciting but was comfy and did get to wear my new Tony Bianco wedges. I should forget my work every weekend!

New York, New York

Oh poor little neglected blog, work and post-grad have really done a number on the blogging lately and keeping up with other's blogs (which I normally love)! Does anyone else get guilt complex when they neglect thier own or others' blogs?

Anyway in honour of me swapping my first lot of money to $US today I thought I would blog about my upcoming trip to NYC! ... ok its ages away and not until May but thats irrelevant.

I think I have mentioned my family are really creative before and my Aunt really is an incredible artist. She has been invited to exhibit in New York so I am going to go see! Couldnt' be more excited or proud of her and so glad I can share the moment. I dont think I can post anything from the exhibition but here is some of her handywork.

Amazing huh?

Also....SHOPPING!!!!

I have made a deal with myself that I can buy one expensive bag then all the clothes have to be reasonable. I have been pining over neutral bags for months trying to find the perfect fit and I thought the Chloe Paraty below was the one.
But Chanel have gone neutral bag crazy and I always kind of feel that they are more staying power but you know the outlay is bigger. So I am torn. Below are some of my fav ones.

So I am putting it out there...which bag do people in blogland prefer?

Smooth Criminal

As kind of a new years resolution, my partner and I decided to downsize our lives down a little, part of which included getting rid of our apartment because he works away five days in a week and it's such a huge money drain. So Australia Day is our goodbye apartment party!

Meanwhile I moved in with some friends on Sat so Sunday was achy and lazy so the man and I went to balmain for lunch and drinks and this was my Michael Jacksonesque getup.

Work Wear

One of the upsides of working in Marketing in the Cosmetics Industry is that you can take liberties with work attire, so this is what I wore today super comfy and a vast improvement on the suits I used to wear!

 The details:
Wearing Country Road Jacket, Scanlan and Theodore top, Cue Pants, Avon Necklace, Calvin Klein shoes and BCBG Maxazria clutch.

Also I have been tagged by some lovely (and very stylish) bloggers for the stylish blog award, if you havent already I suggest you check them out!

Aelie at Autumn Castle
The Lovely Ladies at Black Ink Vintage
and of course The Stylish Shoe girl at The Stylish Shoe Girl

So here are my 7 things about me:
  • I am petrified of birds but love buying clothing and jewellery with birds on them.
  • I study my MBA (Masters in Business) at night and work long hours which is why I start nearly every outfit post with "sorry the photos arent great but I was in a hurry".
  • I love lists, I am not pedantic but love crossing things out when I finish them. I even write things that I have already done just so I can cross them out.
  • I am obsessed with the bubbles game app on the iphone, I wont stop playing it until I reach 5000 points and you know what happens then? Nothing.
  • I have a habit of naming inanimate objects, my laptops name is Archibald, my boyfriends laptop is Reginald (AKA Archie and Reggie), my Chanel bag is called Shelley Channelly and my car is called Heinrich Von Trappensson the Third (he is an Audi so needed a german name).
  • I have a (dorky) love of politics and economics and I am a staunch Atheist and Civil Libertarian.
  • I am moving out of my apartment this week to downsize and live with some friends and I am already mourning the view!

I'm With the Band

I wore this Friday night and now realise I didn't take a very good picture of this dress, its kind of mod-ish with a high neckline and straight up and down fit, however it is VERY short.....I had to be careful which dance moves I used.

I just realised I didnt take a front on pic so here is a close up of the pannelling that runs down the front of the dress.
I bought these shoes I think about 4 or 5 years ago from zomp, I hated them at the time but now they are so worn and grungy I love them.

Summer Classics

I find it hard to do polished most of the time but moreso in Summer, when all I want to do is bum around in denim shorts and an oversized singlets. After scanning through all the millions of images saved on my computer I found this simple combo of a shirt and high waisted skirts on these women look really lovely and doable in the heat. I think I am going to go on the hunt for some new shirts today.

On an unrelated note..how amazing is Peony's hair (the last pic)? I am thinking of buying a Mason Pearson brush...does anyone have one and are they really worth the cost?
